Open Air Military Museum
During this Centenary of ANZAC period, the Bendigo District RSL Inc. is hosting an exhibition for the period from Remembrance Day 2016 to ANZAC Day 2017 inclusive as a Community Event.
The highly visual experience will portray many scenes and themes that service personnel from each era would see. Pictorial, static and dynamic displays with military artefacts would adorn an area at the rear of the Bendigo District RSL Inc. during this period. They would be modified as the year progresses as many groups partake in further developing this symbolic tribute.
The display will be free of charge. As our forebears volunteered themselves for their service and some paid the ultimate sacrifice, to ask someone to pay towards this display’s costs would not be envisaged.
The exhibition would have a chronological timeline spanning from pre-war Australia to the present day, using a mix of arresting visuals, artefacts, audio and film to engage visitors.
A key feature of this exhibition would be the ‘local stories’ zone that will be part of the exhibition. These zones will be created in close collaboration with local community members. The experience will be enhanced by modifying the exhibition to include Bendigo and District displays. The exhibition would promote community engagement and participation in its setup and display, as well as including all stakeholders being involved.
